6 Tips to Make a Lasting Change

You don’t have to wait for a new year to roll around on the calendar before you make lifestyle changes. New year’s resolutions can be a bit taboo; talking about what you wont be doing before Valentines Day gets here. Yes, resolutions come and go; however, our true desires are here to stay. If you want a change in your life use these tips to start today!

Here are six tips to help you make lasting changes in your life all year round.

1. Focus on One Goal at a Time

Committing to more than one thing can be overwhelming. You only have so much will-power and energy to go around. Make it easier on yourself and focus on one goal at a time. If you want to make a lasting change, you need to find a way to consistently work at it. Putting too much on your plate may make you lose sight of your vision or distract you from your path.

If you put too much on your plate, you might lose sight of your final vision. Pick one change to focus on at a time and find a way to make that change part of your lifestyle. Once your lifestyle changes, it will be easier to incorporate more goals on your plate.

2. Write it Down

What is it that you want out of life? How about the next year? Whatever you want, write it down. It may sound a little cliche, but writing it down is the first step to put your vision into action. It is no longer a thought lingering in your head. It is now part of a vision. A lot of people create a vision board as a constant remind of what they want. If a vision board is not your forte, a motivational quote or picture placed somewhere you will see everyday works great!

3. Make Small Changes at a Time

Major changes don’t happen overnight, and if they could, everyone might do it! The fulfillment of reaching a goal you set for yourself and accomplished by yourself is immeasurable. With that said, break a big goal down into smaller goals. This will help you create a visual timeline and mark small accomplishments along the way!

4. Hold Yourself Accountable

No one is going to be looking out for you the way you will look after yourself. Use your will-power and motivation to hold yourself accountable and keep your bigger vision in mind. No one is perfect, so allow yourself a cheat day and don’t beat yourself up over setbacks. Focus on the positive and the future.

5. Create a Buddy System

Creating a buddy system can also help you stay on track and stay motivated. Sharing your vision with others and talking about your journey is a great way to put your path in perspective and put your ideas into motion. Do you have an accountable partner that shares the same goal? Working with someone else can have a fair share of benefits. Just be sure you are both dedicated and holding each other accountable. You don’t want to work with someone who will set you back and influence you to linger from your final goal.

6. Enjoy the Journey

The most important part of making a lasting change? Enjoy the journey! Make changes that match your desires and working hard might just feel like hardly working! There is not one way to reach a goal, so create the path that’s right for you. If you enjoy what you’re doing it will become part of your lifestyle and become a lasting change.
