August 7, 2015 – All American Healthcare New Orleans

As the days draw near, it is the start of the school year……It is that time again – back to school shopping and preparing your child for the school year. With all of the busy back-to-school preparations going on it can be overwhelming to remember everything.

Don’t forget to take advantage of Louisiana’s Tax Free Weekend today, August 7 and August 8, 2015.  Just in time for back-to-school, supplies, clothes and most other items eligible for the Louisiana Tax Free Weekend.

The Louisiana Annual Sales Tax Holiday provides an exemption from state sales tax on the first $2,500 of the purchase price of most individual items of tangible personal property for non-business use. The state sales tax is payable on the portion of the purchase price of any individual item in excess of $2,500.

The holiday applies only to the 4 percent state sales tax. It does not apply to sales taxes levied by parishes, municipalities, school boards, and other political subdivisions of the state.

Under Louisiana law, the annual sales tax holiday takes place on the first consecutive Friday and Saturday each August. The 2015 sales tax holiday begins at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, August 7, and continues through 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, August 8.

Purchases Eligible for Exemption

The exemption applies statewide to all consumer purchases of tangible personal property, other than vehicles subject to license and title and meals furnished for consumption on the premises where purchased, including to-go orders, provided that the property is not for use in a business, trade, or profession.

What items are NOT eligible for exemption?

In addition to the specific exclusions in the Act for vehicles and meals, the state sales tax holiday does not apply to:

  • Purchases of taxable services (such as hotel occupancy)
  • Amusement, recreational, and athletic admissions
  • Repairs to tangible personal property
  • Laundry, cleaning, pressing, and dyeing services
  • Vehicle parking
  • The furnishing of cold storage space
  • Printing services
  • Telecommunication services
  • Leases or rentals of tangible personal property

After your back to shopping list is complete, All American Healthcare Louisiana,  can help with another back to school preparation:  Sports Physicals.

If your son or daughter is starting a sport they will need what’s called a “sports physical.”  A sports physical incorporates additional questions into the exam that screen for sports related concerns such as injuries, concussions and other health problems that would be dangerous for an athlete.

For teens participating in school athletics, there is often a “sports physical form” required by the school. Student athletes must turn these in before they can participate in any school sanctioned sports. The forms need to be updated every two years. If your child is participating in a school sport, it is helpful to ensure that your child is up to date on their physical so that they are not delayed in starting their sport at school.

All American Healthcare Louisiana Offers Physical Exams for all athletes who plan to participate in activities for the 2015-2016 School Year.
